Meet the Nerds
Founded by a group of social science students and good friends, the Cape Town Design Nerds grew out of our collaboration with the Vancouver Design Nerds Society, Stellenbosch University (South Africa), University of Toronto Scarborough (Canada), and University West (Sweden) to design and facilitate several Global Classroom for Democracy Innovation (GCDI) events.
The Cape Town Design Nerds’ purpose is to create online and in-person spaces of critical dialogue and joyful collaboration among diverse students and between students and various civil society actors. In doing so, we aim to break down disciplinary silos and the often stark separation of universities from the communities in which they are embedded.
We want CTDN to facilitate the opportunities for inclusive, creative, challenging, hopeful, justice-oriented, and socially and environmentally responsive learning that we wish we had as students.
